You are constantly under surveillance. Just look around.
Surveillance Technology is colonizing public space, spreading like bacteria in our cities and towns. Surveillance that was once only possible by governments in the name of public safety metastasized to private corporations to protect capital. Further evolution of digital technology has allowed surveillance cameras to colonize neighborhoods through networks of doorbell and small security cameras.
There is little evidence that surveillance makes us more safe.
But it does breed mistrust in our neighbors and reinforce white supremacy through “digital gatekeeping” by assigning who belongs in a neighborhood and who is “suspicious.”
This app will help you recognize surveillance in your own life.
